Cheryl is a solicitor and director for Scott Duff & Co Solicitors, based in the Carlisle office and dealing with family law. She is responsible for the day-to-day running of the company and it’s 3 offices in Carlisle, Penrith and Keswick alongside 3 other directors, as well as running a case load of family law work, including divorce, financial issues, cohabitation and children matters.
Cheryl was born and grew up in Carlisle. She moved away to Lancashire to complete my Law Degree and Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice before returning to her home town of Carlisle. Initially Cheryl worked for the Crown Prosecution Service before obtaining a Trainee Solicitor role at Scott Duff & Co in 2006, where she completed her training and qualified as a solicitor in 2008. Cheryl joined the board of directors for the firm in 2016.
Cheryl is a season ticket holder for Carlisle United and loves living and working in such close proximity to the Lake District.
As a Cumbrian, Cheryl believes that it is important to promote local business as much as possible. She also believes that small businesses such as Scott Duff & Co Solicitors deserve to have the same representation and say in matters as large and national companies. She hopes to be able to offer a different perspective to the board on behalf of professional services and small local businesses, and that in turn, this will help other small businesses in our community.
Cheryl doesn’t like to use legal jargon and believes many of her clients would say that her best quality is that she is down to earth and explains things in an understandable way, whilst also maintaining her professionalism at all times.
Becoming a director at the firm where she trained as a solicitor has been her biggest highlight. Her mentor as a trainee and for a number of years afterwards was the founder of our firm, Andrew Duff, who sadly passed away in 2018. When he retired due to ill health, he was very proud of the firm he had created and that he felt he was leaving the firm in capable hands. Cheryl hopes to carry on with the legacy he created and continue to build the firm and reputation until her own retirement.
She once paraglided off a 6500ft mountain!
