Cumbria Chamber of Commerce Welcomes National Grid as New Patron Member, Strengthening Commitment to Sustainable Growth in the Region

Cumbria Chamber of Commerce, the county’s leading voice for businesses of all sizes, is thrilled to announce that National Grid has joined as a new Patron member. This prestigious partnership underscores National Grid’s dedication to fostering economic prosperity and innovation in Cumbria, aligning with the Chamber’s mission to empower local businesses to achieve their full potential. As one of the UK’s largest energy infrastructure companies, National Grid plays a pivotal role in the transition to cleaner, home-grown energy from more affordable sources, managing vital networks that power homes, businesses, and communities across the nation. Their Patron membership – the Chamber’s highest and most exclusive tier – will provide enhanced visibility, policy influence, and collaborative opportunities to support Cumbrian enterprises in areas such as sustainable energy and supply chain development, and skills training.

James Bridges, Head of Membership and Commercial at Cumbria Chamber of Commerce, said:
“We are delighted to welcome National Grid as a Patron member. Their expertise in energy infrastructure and commitment to sustainability perfectly complements our work in driving green growth across Cumbria. This partnership will open new doors for our members, from innovative startups to established manufacturers, helping them navigate the energy transition and build resilient supply chains. Together, we’re not just powering businesses – we’re powering the future of our region”

“We’re excited to begin our collaboration with the Cumbria Chamber of Commerce and to actively contribute to the region’s vibrant business community,” said Stephen Knight-Gregson, Head of External Affairs at National Grid.

“Through participation in local events and initiatives, we aim to share our story, build strong relationships, and identify opportunities for meaningful partnerships. Our goal is to help deliver a lasting, positive socio-economic impact across Cumbria.

“This follows our recent announcement outlining proposals to upgrade the electricity network in the region. By bringing home-grown energy from more affordable sources to homes and businesses in Cumbria we are ensuring the network can meet the region’s growing demand for power as energy use continues to rise.”
