Tom is the Managing Director of Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire. He has the responsibility of looking after the day-to-day operations of around 700 employees and 350 vehicles in the area. His bus routes cover Morecambe to Dumfries and from the west coast to Newcastle and although covering such a large area, his team keeps everything on track to allow safe and efficient travel for Stagecoach customers
Tom is from Wensleydale in North Yorkshire, near the border of Cumbria. After joining Stagecoach in 2009 on their graduate scheme, he was able to climb the working ladder and was given many opportunities to expand within his field. Once offered the job of Operations Manager for Cumbria and North Lancashire he felt this was the perfect way to progress his career.
After Tom moved back to Cumbria nearly 4 years ago, he wanted to give a little back to Cumbria’s business community. He wishes to share his expertise and experience from working in the industry with those who need some advice to help them succeed. Tom is passionate about his community and finds the Chamber a way to give something back to the county.
Those who work with Tom are likely to describe him as calm under pressure. Although his work can be stressful at times, Tom continues to be level-headed.
Tom has three highlights. His first is being the runner up for the Young Manager of the year (2013) UK Bus Awards after only being Operations Manager for 18 months. His second is becoming an Operations Director at the age of 31, he believes becoming a director at such a young age is an extremely big achievement of which he is very proud of! His final highlight is at the 2019 UK Bus Awards, Cumbria and North Lancashire won operator of the year and received Silver for Bus Operator of the Year.
Tom’s fun fact about himself is despite being from Wensleydale, he despises cheese!
