As Chief Exec of H&H Group plc, Richard is ultimately responsible for every aspect of H&H’s activities in the rural sector. Which covers advising farmers and landowners on their respective businesses and assets (think Charlie on Clarkson’s Farm), protecting their livelihoods with our insurance brokers and through to valuing, marketing and auctioning their livestock. H&H interact with over 11,000 famers every year with approximately 10% of all UK livestock coming through its doors.
A passion for outdoor life and the Lake District initially brought Richard to Cumbria. Since then, roots have grown far and wide, with involvement from setting up a village community owned shop, chairing his local triathlon club and sitting on the board of Cumbria Tourism for 10 years. Richard now sees himself as part of the fabric of Cumbria, whilst obviously recognising he’s still an “incomer”!
After 10 years at Cumbria Tourism Richard wanted to use his business and commercial skills elsewhere within the county to carry on trying to make a positive difference. Since putting down roots it became obvious to Richard that Cumbrians and their businesses have so much to offer but might not realise it, and making businesses successful is his passion.
Richard has that ability to always see the bigger picture and clearly articulate what it looks like or what the underlying issue really is. Asking those difficult questions that get to the root of the opportunity or issue.
Whilst there have been many achievements during the past 30 years, Richard would always count the people and teams he has mentored, coached, or created and the successes they’ve gone on to have as his career highlights.
Richard is a passionate triathlete, with his most recent highlight representing Team GB in Age Group competition in Belgium, and a dedicated advocate for mental wellbeing, both personally and professionally.
