As Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day approach, Cumbria Chamber of Commerce joins communities, businesses and organisations across the country in paying tribute to those who have given their lives in service to our country.
Remembrance Sunday, taking place on 8 November this year, offers an opportunity for people across the UK to come together in reflection, while Armistice Day on 11 November marks the anniversary of the end of fighting in the First World War.
At 11am on 11 November 1918, the guns fell silent on the Western Front. More than a century later, these occasions remain important moments of national remembrance, honouring the courage, sacrifice and service of those who have served in conflicts throughout history.
Across Cumbria, our communities have deep connections to the Armed Forces, with generations of local people having served their country. Their sacrifices, and those made by their families and loved ones, continue to shape the communities we are part of today.
Remembrance is also an opportunity to recognise those who continue to serve, veterans who have returned to civilian life, and the families who support them.
As a Chamber representing businesses across Cumbria and as an Armed Forces Covenant Gold organisation, we recognise and support the important role our business community plays in supporting veterans, reservists and military families, whether through employment opportunities, community initiatives or simply showing appreciation for their service.
Around these important dates it seems particularly apt for us all to reflect as businesses and individuals on how we can do that most effectively.
