To coordinate the charity's marketing, communications and public relations activity, increasing awareness, engagement, income generation and support for the charity's services. The postholder will develop and implement integrated marketing and communications strategies that strengthen the charity's profile, promote its impact, support fundraising, service delivery, staff & volunteer recruitment and stakeholder engagement.
The postholder will be an agile and proactive professional, capable of managing multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, while building strong relationships internally and externally. The role requires excellent organisational, communication and leadership skills, alongside the ability to respond confidently to emerging opportunities and changing priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Marketing and Communications
Develop and deliver the annual comms and marketing plan working with the Executive Leadership Team to align activity with organisational priorities.
Support organisational objectives, fundraising campaigns and service promotion.
Prepare proposals for the annual marketing budget.
Contribute to organisational growth through increased awareness and engagement.
Ensure marketing activity aligns with organisational values and priorities.
Brand Management
With support from the Design & Social Media Officer act as brand guardian, ensuring consistency across all communications and materials.
Ensure all communications are accurate, impactful and consistent with CancerCare’s mission, values, tone of voice and brand guidelines.
Oversee the design and production of all printed materials for the Charity to ensure consistency of brand and messaging.
Content Creation and Storytelling
Lead on copywriting, editing and proofreading for all marketing communications.
Lead the development of compelling stories demonstrating the charity's impact.
Manage and develop content for digital, print, media and fundraising campaigns.
Working with the Design & Social Media Officer create newsletters, annual reports, website content, case studies and promotional materials.
Ensure all newly created content is accessible and compliant with the organisation’s accessibility standards.
Media and Public Relations
Develop and maintain relationships with journalists, media outlets and influencers.
Identify, create and maximise media, PR and marketing opportunities for the charity to achieve strong positive coverage in print, broadcast and online media.
Write press releases, statements and speeches.
Coordinate and oversee media interviews involving staff, supporters and service users.
Manage reactive and crisis communications if necessary.
Digital Marketing
With support from the Digital and Social Media Officer lead digital planning, delivery and maintenance across the website, email, social media and digital campaigns.
Oversee analytics, reporting and insight driven optimisation, using performance data to guide your own work and the work of the Digital & Social Media Officer, ensuring improved engagement and return on investment.
Campaigns and Events
Lead marketing and communications support for fundraising events and campaigns.
Develop promotional plans and campaign assets.
Work with partners and sponsors on joint communications activity.
Stakeholder Engagement
Build relationships with supporters, volunteers, healthcare partners, community groups and corporate supporters.
Support organisational partnerships and external engagement activities.
Team Leadership
Work collaboratively with staff to support organisation-wide communications needs and provide guidance on messaging.
Manage external suppliers and agencies where appropriate.
Line manage the Data and Social Media Officer, giving support with direction, objective setting, training, guidance, and workload planning.
Monitoring and Evaluation
Monitor KPIs and communications performance using analytics and performance data, and use insights to improve performance.
Produce regular reports for senior leaders and trustees including an annual review of communications performance and learn to inform future planning.
Use insights and analytics to drive performance in specific fundraising streams and marketing campaigns to inform future activity.

Manage workload effectively and maintain accurate records using organisational systems such as Microsoft Outlook and the organisation’s CRM, Beacon.

With proven experience of working in communications and/or marketing, you will be able to demonstrate:
Using a range of communications and digital tools, including content creation, email marketing, website, social media, analytics and CRM platforms.
Strong copywriting skills, adapting content for different audiences, channels and formats.
Experience producing high-quality marketing and communications materials across digital and offline channels.
Strong digital and IT skills, with the confidence to learn and adopt new tools and platforms.
Experience working within the charity sector or for a mission-led organisation or brand is desirable, but not essential.
Strong analytical skills and understanding of ROI.
Ability to work collaboratively with staff, trustees, partners and media.
