William King Construction Backs Next Generation of Entrepreneurs by Sponsoring Cumbria Chamber Business Start-Up Course

A leading Cumbrian construction company is investing in the next generation of business owners after announcing its sponsorship of Cumbria Chamber of Commerce's long-running four-day Business Start-Up Course.

A leading Cumbrian construction company is investing in the next generation of business owners after announcing its sponsorship of Cumbria Chamber of Commerce’s long-running four-day Business Start-Up Course.

William King Construction, an award-winning family-run business employing more than 100 people across Cumbria, has become the new sponsor of the Chamber’s popular programme, which has helped hundreds of aspiring entrepreneurs take their first steps into business over the years.

The sponsorship holds particular significance for the company’s founder, William King, who attended the Chamber’s Business Start-Up Course in 2008 when William King Construction was still little more than an idea.

Today, the business delivers projects across the residential, commercial and nuclear sectors throughout Cumbria and beyond, having grown from a single entrepreneur with ambition and a bucket of tools into one of the region’s leading construction firms. The company was founded in 2008 and has expanded into a business employing more than 100 people while maintaining its commitment to craftsmanship, quality and professionalism.

William King, Director at William King Construction Ltd, said:

“I attended the Chamber’s four-day business start-up course in 2008, at a point when William King Construction was little more than an idea, one bucket of tools and a lot of ambition.

“The course gave me a practical understanding of the fundamentals of running a business, but perhaps more importantly, it gave me the confidence to believe that building something of my own was possible.

“Seventeen years later, William King Construction has grown into a business employing more than 100 people across Cumbria, delivering projects ranging from luxury homes to major commercial and nuclear-sector work.

“Looking back, that course was one of the earliest building blocks in our journey. It provided knowledge, encouragement and a framework that helped turn an idea into a sustainable business.

“Supporting future entrepreneurs through programmes like this is incredibly important. Every successful business starts somewhere, and for me, this course was one of those starting points.”

The Chamber’s Business Start-Up Course provides aspiring entrepreneurs with a comprehensive introduction to starting and running a successful business.

Delivered online across four half-day sessions from 14 to 17 July, the programme covers everything from business planning and marketing to tax, record keeping, sustainability and future-proofing a business.

Participants can attend individual sessions or complete the full course, gaining practical knowledge and expert guidance designed to help turn business ideas into reality.

Lesley Robinson, Head of Business Growth & Support at Cumbria Chamber of Commerce, Said:

“William’s story perfectly demonstrates the impact this course can have. Seeing a former participant return nearly two decades later to support the next generation of entrepreneurs is incredibly powerful and shows what can be achieved with the right support, determination and ambition.”

The next Business Start-Up Course will take place online from Tuesday 14 July to Friday 17 July, from 9.30am to 12.30pm each day.
