To celebrate International Men’s Day, Cumbria Chamber of Commerce is proud to host an inspiring morning event built around the theme “Adversity to Hope.” This uplifting session will bring together local men, women, businesses, and community members to explore resilience, mental health, and recovery — featuring keynote speaker Andy Steele, an ex-Paratrooper and Firefighter whose powerful story of overcoming PTSD continues to inspire audiences across the country.
Andy began his career in the British Parachute Regiment in the late 1980s, before spending 16 years with Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service. After facing a series of traumatic experiences in the line of duty, he developed post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) — a turning point that ultimately led him on a journey of profound personal transformation. Through Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT), Hypnotherapy, and Kinetic Shift Technique, Andy discovered the tools that helped him rebuild his life and sense of self. Today, he uses those same methods to support others in overcoming trauma and rediscovering hope.
The morning of the 19th November will commence with relaxed networking where guests can connect whilst enjoying tea coffee and of course a bacon bap before Andy takes to the stage to share his remarkable story. His keynote talk will explore the realities of PTSD, the importance of seeking help, and the ways men can support one another through life’s challenges. Afterward, attendees will take part in an interactive workshop designed to explore practical strategies for building resilience and mental wellbeing, followed by an open discussion and questions from the room.
